Southeast Queens

2025 Southeast Queens Conference Report

The Rev. Marcia Parkinson-Harrison, Dean

Since our last in-person assembly, the Southeast Queens Conference has worked collaboratively and effectively to advance our shared vision. We have convened numerous meetings to discuss and refine our goals, ensuring that every voice is heard and valued. Our worship services have been meaningful opportunities to unite in faith and fellowship. Additionally, we successfully organized two technology workshops that were well-attended by all members of the conference, enhancing our collective capabilities.

We also came together to support community initiatives, including a food drive and a collection of essential clothing and toys for both adults and children. These efforts reflect our strong sense of collegiality and commitment to serving our community with compassion and unity.

The most exciting development from the Southeast Queens Conference is our intentional focus on embracing change and preparing for the future. We recognize the evolving needs of our neighbors, the impact of pastoral retirements, and the importance of engaging the next generation in our ministry. In response, we have been gathering regularly to reimagine our mission, exploring new ways to serve our community more effectively.

Our efforts include leadership development initiatives to equip emerging leaders, discussions on collaborative ministry models, and creating opportunities for youth involvement. By fostering a spirit of unity and adaptability, we are committed to ensuring that our conference continues to thrive and faithfully respond to God's call in the years to come.

The Metro New York Synod community can join the Southeast Queens Conference in its work by participating in our collaborative ministry initiatives and community outreach programs. We invite congregations and individuals to partner with us in our food drives, clothing distributions, and technology workshops, which serve those in need and build connections across our neighborhoods.

Additionally, we welcome involvement through shared worship services, leadership training sessions, and open forums where we discuss our vision and collective mission. By bringing diverse gifts and perspectives to the table, the broader synod community can play a vital role in strengthening our ministries and expanding our impact. Together, we can live out our faith through meaningful service and mutual support.
