By Rebekah Thornhill
Our 2016 Synod Assembly was marked with prayer, conversation, and testimonies around racial justice. We welcomed Dr. Kelly Brown Douglas as our Preaching Theologian. She led us through thinking about the ways a "Stand Your Ground" culture has given way to especially black bodies being unprotected in American society. She gave depth to how we as faithful Christians must respond.
We also celebrated being together: We welcomed guests from the North Western Diocese of Tanzania as we reafirmed our covenant together. We received St. Lydia's, Brooklyn as a congregation in our synod. We also heard from those who have felt the impact of our stratgeic plan and how it has enabled them to do the work that they are called to do in their communities.
