ADLA of Metro New York | Reflections on Juneteenth

Words of the hymn, “We’ve Come This Far By Faith” rings true to the history of African Americans in the United States. Through sweat and tears we have thrived and survived. On this Juneteenth, as we celebrate the remembrance of those who’s lives built this country economically and physically as we know it today, our response should be “Thank You.”

Juneteenth (short for “June Nineteenth”) is a holiday commemorating this day, which marked the effective end of slavery in the United States of America. Sunday, June 19, 2021, is a special day in the lives of Black people. Emancipation Day, or Day of Freedom is both a somber and celebratory day to commemorate the Thirteenth Amendment.
