The vase of flowers
"How can we know who we are in the world, and how to relate to others in it?" a group of students asked their teacher. At their next session, the teacher asked them to illustrate a vase of flowers he had brought. Of course all the drawings were as different as the students who drew them.
"Each of us has one point of view," the teacher went on to say. "When you share that view, everyone can see more of the whole picture. Each of us is like a flower, or a potted plant. We are unique and strong, yet also fragile. Our challenge is, how can we help one another to blossom and grow, together?"
We, the flowers and plants of God's watered garden
Asian ministries in our synod are God's flowers and plants, watered by God to flourish for mission. And we come from a garden of immense diversity. At last count, Asian pastors of the synod spoke or were familiar with a total of 54 Asian languages or dialects! Yet in our diversity there is also unity. Our greatest commonality is our passion to live as disciples of a loving God who welcomes all people to the watered garden.
